Thank you to everyone who joined us at Budget Matters 2022: Building on progress together. We heard from advocates who have direct experience in building powerful connections and creating policies that will bring Washington state closer to economic justice.
In 2022, Budget Matters had two virtual sessions. In the first session, we discussed the power of coalition-driven movements and how they resulted in the recent passage of key policy priorities, like the Washington Immigrant Relief Fund and the Working Families Tax Credit. This session featured Alizeh Bhojani of OneAmerica and Denisse Guerrero of Washington Community Alliance and was facilitated by Joseph Lachman of Asian Counseling and Referral Service.
The second session focused on how we can continue the momentum for getting direct cash assistance into the hands of Washingtonians by creating a statewide guaranteed basic income program. Budget & Policy Center Policy Analyst Tracy Yeung will facilitate a conversation between Dona Ponepinto of United Way of Pierce County and Jennifer Bereskin of the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska – Unangax Coast Salish – Snohomish Nation Youngest Daughter of the SeaMonster Man.
